I was an A student. How could I be FLUNKING?

by | Jun 19, 2025 | Archetype of Scarcity, Foundation for Abundance, Scarcity Mindset

I came this close to flunking Calculus my freshman year of college. And that might not sound like a big deal—unless you know that I graduated high school as salutatorian with a 3.98 GPA.

I was the girl who could figure things out. The one who got A’s without breaking a sweat.

So how on earth did I end up failing?

Well… it turns out I never should’ve been in that class in the first place. I never took Calculus in high school. Not even pre-Calc. The most I had was some higher algebra and a little trig.

But when I got accepted to college, they gave me a placement test—and because I’m intuitive (and pretty good at guessing multiple choice), I tested into Calc I. I thought that meant I was ready.

But I wasn’t. I didn’t have the foundation I needed.

And once I started falling behind? I did what I’d always done:
Tried to catch up on my own.
Cleared a weekend, opened the textbook, and tried to power through it.

But I couldn’t get it.
None of it made sense.
And I felt something I wasn’t used to feeling—
Stupid. Ashamed. Not enough.

So I did what so many of us do when we feel that way:
I hid.
I didn’t tell my teacher.
I didn’t go to the study labs or ask for help.
I didn’t even tell my mom or my roommate.
I just kept pretending I could fix it—by myself.

And I almost flunked.

The only reason I didn’t is because I dropped the class at the last possible moment.
I lost the money I paid for it, but at least I saved my GPA.

Today, I wish I’d done it differently.
I wish I had admitted I didn’t have the background I needed.
I wish I’d asked for help.

But here’s the truth that came out of that experience—and has shaped my work ever since:

Abundance—especially when it comes to money—is a lot like Calculus.
And most of us simply don’t have the foundation we need.
We think we do—especially if we’ve read the books, watched the videos, or tried to “fix our money mindset.”
But the truth is, most of what we’ve been taught about abundance has actually been in reaction to scarcity.
And because of that, even teachings that use words like “manifestation” or “prosperity” can still leave us stuck in the same old scarcity loop.

They don’t free us from scarcity.
They just repackage it in shinier language.
And it winds up showing up all over the place—including in our bank accounts.

So if you’ve been working really hard and still don’t feel like you’re getting anywhere…
If you feel fear, pressure, or guilt around money—even if you’re doing “okay”…
If abundance still feels just out of reach, no matter what you do…

It’s not because something is wrong with you.
It’s because you’ve been trying to create a life of abundance on a foundation of scarcity.
And that foundation can’t hold what your heart longs for.

You don’t have to drop the class—or your dream.
You just need the support and the foundation you haven’t had.

And that’s exactly what I’d love to help you discover.
